Touché! I was feeling crotchety and pedantic, probably just having read the comments about this news in the Daily Mail - the Brit newspaper for single-celled creatures. Anything in the Daily Mail has to be confirmed before being dismissed out of hand. Mind you, I wouldn't have researched it if I hadn't read a work of fiction describing this weird piece of pathology the day before. I have no idea how it escaped my notice before! And I admit thinking 'ew!' 'cool!' and - well, other expressions not to be used in polite company.

Me too! You need to call dibs now on the teratoma costume for Halloween before one of them snags it.

To be fair, such a find is likely to engender visceral reactions ranging from "ew!" to "cool!" I imagine even the researchers had a moment or two along those lines when they realized there were teeth in there.

I was hoping there was a teratoma icon, so I'll settle with a small plus sign growing in a cranium.

On a side note, that roof tile burial looks really cool, and keeps the rain off.

It's so refreshing to read such wonderfully intelligent, erudite and perceptive comments from some serious students of history and archeopathology. (Yes - I'm being ironic.)

Smells like some creepy sort of parthenogenic pathogenesis: It would be tempting to cultivate something like manipulated progenitor cells in vitro. So to speak, Little Frankenstein's artificial womb that does not deal with embryos, but delivers body parts that ideally are themselves not pathogenic. - Igor, ...let's roll !
