As a volunteer I've stayed in a tent, a monastery, a kibbutz, a youth hostel, and a straw bungalo (all pretty primative) with wonderful fellow diggers. The digs are usually in the summer, when Israel is at its hottest. Lately I have to do the fieldwork as a real job, for pay, in the Old City. The pickaxe is my favorite tool. Scorpions, wasps, and chiggers are my least favorite companions. Archaeology is a great life. Come on over and dig, everybody!
