I don’t think anyone finds it surprising that champagne existed in the 1780s. What’s surprising is that champagne that old has survived in drinkable condition. The next runner-up is at least 40 years younger, after all.

I almost blogged on this topic myself but didn’t know exactly what to say other than it’s pretty funny. People shouldn’t find it too surprising that these were in existence centuries ago.
