I’m volunteering as a poll worker, and since the call time is 5AM and we don’t leave the premises until the polls close at 8PM, I won’t have time to write today. Posting will resume as normal on Wednesday. (Assuming I don’t sleep all day. Which I might, as I am going to need to ingest industrial quantities of coffee to make it through today.)
Thank you! Love your blog, but huge 🥂 for volunteering.
Thank you right back! It was a long and busy day, but I would and certainly will do it again in a heartbeat.
I actually had such a coffee machine 🙂 It is a beautiful piece made I believe in 1920s-30s.
Thank you for the great blog!
That is so cool. Did it make good coffee?
Thank you for reading!
I’ve loved and shared your blog for many years. Thank you for all the great history articles and for being a poll worker as well. Good luck to you – and to us all – today. Looking forward to reading more of your articles, whenever you’re in shape to post them!
Thank you for the blog love and for sharing it for all these years. I am officially back in action. 🙂
Thanks for working the polls. Love your blog!
Thank you, Trixie. :thanks:
Thanks for your work! I agree – your blog is tremendous, I read every day.
Thank you for your dedication.
I try to run an IV drip attached to a Box Of Joe to get me through the days like that lol. Thanks for volunteering. I got to the polls at 5:30 am. By 6:00 the line was out into the parking lot. The line moved quickly so don’t become discouraged if you’re waiting in line. The volunteers know their stuff and get you through ASAP.
There were people waiting in line when I arrived at 5AM. By 6 when they opened the lined snaked around the school. I’m pretty sure I knew the least of everyone there, but as a team we worked together to ensure all voters were able to cast their ballots in as timely a fashion as possible.
Wishing you lots mental strength to get through today…
Truth be told, I was much more trepidacious about it the night before. Once I got there, the positive atmosphere carrying us through the hard work and challenging moments.
Thank you! :hattip:
Thank you for your thanks!
Your blog is my Must Read every day.
Today – only today – we give you leave to defend democracy :hattip:
Darnitall, I took a second day without permission. I hope by the grace of Ben I shall be forgiven.
Thanks for helping in the process. Enjoy the coffee, the day, and especially the people!
The people were without question the best part. I really enjoyed working with the team and helping the voters.
Read your blog every day!…thanks for keeping us informed and thanks for volunteering! Take a couple days off the blog, you deserve a break
I obeyed your command to the letter. Thank you!
Another big “Thank you!” for being a poll watcher. I do think you should, at minimum, sleep late tomorrow.
I slept fitfully, so there was extensive napping involved. 🙂
Thank you for volunteering!
Thank you! I will definitely do it again.
Good on ya!
Grazie! :thanks:
“…There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don’t know we don’t know…”
Amen, sister.
To bridge the waiting time, although from the wrong continent, some historical music:

PS: Let’s hope the ‘industrial quantities of coffee’ will last. We count on you.
That’s way better than the 80s-style hold music I was going to post. Thank you!
echoing all the messages here, thank you (for both your work on the election and for this fantastic blog which I read everyday)
Thank you, Clio, for your support of the blog and of the reason for the brief interruption of services. 🙂
Thank you for your service. Looking forward to your next posts.
Thank you, JoAnn. As long as I’m able, they will keep coming. 🙂
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
