Facing a shortage of manpower, the Archaeological Survey of India has decided to outsource the conservation of monuments, starting with certain portions of the Red Fort and Safdarjung Tomb in the capital.

However, only relatively modern monuments will be given to private agencies for restoration and maintenance work, he said.

“We will especially outsource the conservation of those places which do not require much technical expertise,” he said.
